Bikini Beach - South Africa, Africa

Bikini Beach is situated on the Whale Coast in the little coastal village of Gordon's Bay, the family friendly Bikini Beach is one of Cape Town's six Blue Flag Beaches, indicating a high level of water quality, facilities, cleanliness and safety. Along the False Bay coastline there are four Blue Flag Beaches, these are Mnandi Beach, Muizenberg Beach, Standfontein Beach, and of course Bikini Beach at Gordon's Bay right out on the easternmost side of False Bay.
Bikini Beach is an excellent swimming beach as the water is usually warm, calm and clear. Named after the numerous bikini clad Stellies students (Stellenbosch University) who are regulars, this intimate little beach has its own particular charm. Surrounded by the craggy Hottentot's Holland mountain range on one side and the harbour breakwater on the other, Bikini Beach is a good option when the wind is howling.
From Bikini Beach you have a never-ending view of the entire False Bay which curves in a huge arc from Gordon's Bay right round to Cape Point at its westernmost extremity. The shops are not far away and there are good changing room facilities. Also on the eastern shore of False Bay is Gordon's Bay Beach and Strand Beach, which are both great family beaches.

Cape Town - South Africa, Africa

Cape Town (Afrikaans: Kaapstad; Xhosa: iKapa) is the second-most populous city in South Africa, and the provincial capital and primate city of the Western Cape. As the seat of the National Parliament, it is also the legislative capital of the country. It forms part of the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. The city is famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Cape Town is also Africa's most popular tourist destination.

Located on the shore of Table Bay, Cape Town was originally developed by the Dutch East India Company as a victualling (supply) station for Dutch ships sailing to Eastern Africa, India, and the Far East. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established the first permanent European settlement in South Africa. Cape Town quickly outgrew its original purpose as the first European outpost at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the economic and cultural hub of the Cape Colony. Until the Witwatersrand Gold Rush and the development of Johannesburg, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa.

Today it is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, reflecting its role as a major destination for immigrants and expatriates to South Africa. As of 2007 the city had an estimated population of 3.5 million. Cape Town's land area of 2,455 square kilometres (948 sq mi) is larger than other South African cities, resulting in a comparatively lower population density of 1,425 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,690 /sq mi).

The centre of Cape Town is located at the northern end of the Cape Peninsula. Table Mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to the City Bowl, with its plateau over 1,000 m (3,300 ft) high; it is surrounded by near-vertical cliffs, Devil's Peak and Lion's Head. Sometimes a thin strip of cloud forms over the mountain, and owing to its appearance, it is colloquially known as the "tablecloth". The peninsula consists of a dramatic mountainous spine jutting southwards into the Atlantic Ocean, ending at Cape Point. There are over 70 peaks above 1,000 feet (300 m) (the American definition of a mountain) within Cape Town's official city limits. Many of the suburbs of Cape Town are on the large plain of the Cape Flats, which joins the peninsula to the mainland. The Cape Flats lie on what is known as a rising marine plain, consisting mostly of sandy geology which shows that at one point Table Mountain itself was an island.

The Cape Peninsula has a Subtropical Mediterranean climate (Koppen Csa), with mild, wet winters, and dry and very warm summers. In winter time, which lasts from the beginning of June to end of August, large cold fronts come across from the Atlantic Ocean with heavy precipitation and strong north-westerly winds. The winter months are cool, with an average minimum of 7.0 °C (45 °F) and maximum of 17.5 °C (63 °F).Most of the city's annual rainfall occurs in wintertime, but due to the mountainous topography of the city, rainfall amounts for specific areas can vary dramatically. Newlands, to the south of the city, is the wettest suburb in South Africa. The valleys and coastal plains average 515 millimetres (20.3 in) of rain per annum, while mountain areas can average as much as 1,500 millimetres (59 in) per annum.

Byron Bay - Australia

Byron Bay is all about the sea. There are few places where the ocean and the sand meet in such pristine conditions. Byron Bay is one of Australia’s most famous destinations. It has been a magnet for people seeking alternative lifestyles since the 60’s. Byron Bay is a beautiful destination for your wedding – imaginative venues and first class suppliers – all situated in this very unique part of the world. Divinity is Byron Bay’s most experienced wedding and event planner – specializing in stylish beach and hinterland ceremonies and receptions. You can try to Kayak with the dolphins or sign up for a workshop in how to channel the dolphins. Things to do are not limited to the young and the restless, or the bold and the beautiful, there are plenty of things to do for the whole family from babies to Nan and Pop. There’s ultralight flights and sea kayaking out with the dolphins. You can take a surfing lesson (you might surprise yourself), parachute out of a plane, horse ride, bike ride, snorkel, scuba dive at our Julian Rocks Marine park reserve, play a round of golf; do yoga, pilates, singing, dancing, acting and much more! On one hand it has, historically, been associated with the alternative lifestyle movement of the 1970s and seen as a kind of interesting hippie retreat in northern NSW. On another level it has been seen as a very upmarket get-away-from-it-all retreat for wealthy southerners not wanting to mix with the hoi polloi who inhabit more vulgar coastal townships like Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. Sleep was calling loudly so we meandered back via the road (not a patch on the beach walk) and collapsed into our room. Belongil Beachouse was not the romantic beach oasis we imagined and our room was simply a let down. Your body, specifically your face and neck, will benefit immensely from this process. It’s also the place on the north coast for whale watching from June to September. Rather ironic, given that before its closure in 1962, the Byron Bay Whaling Station was one of four on the east coast catching and processing whales during the migration. Good views of humpback whales on their migration up the coast to Hervey Bay can be seen from the cape in July and on their return in September.

The Gold Coast - Australia

Gold Coast is a coastal city of Australia located in South East Queensland, 94km south of the state capital Brisbane. With a population approximately 540,000 in 2010, it is the second most populous city in the state, the sixth most populous city in the country, and also the most populous non-capital city in Australia. Gold Coast is known as a major tourist destination with its sunny subtropical climate, surfing beaches, canal and waterway systems, its high-rise dominated skyline, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland. Gold Coast is a candidate city for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Gold Coast is Australia's favourite holiday playground - its been that way since the 1950s when Surfers Paradise was established as a one hotel, beachside town and has grown up over the last half century with more and more attractions have popping up, making the region one of the most tourist-oriented in the world. The Gold Coast is a dedicated tourist town and there's enough things to do to keep you occupied for months. It's not just mini-golf and wax museums either; take a tour of the river and canals in an aqua-bus, head up in a hot air balloon over Mount Tamborine or learn to surf on one of our pristine beaches. The big four, which you've probably heard of, are Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World and Wet'n'Wild, but there are quite a few more. Get up close and pat a koala, watch some outback horsemen and women race around a stadium, or mingle with the native birds at breakfast. Visiting the Gold Coast doesn't have to be expensive, there's plenty of free things to do here! Visiting the beach is probably the most attractive free thing to do but there are plenty more. If you are planning a budget holiday take a look at stuff to do on the Gold Coast that doesn't cost a cent. With more canals than Venice, a gorgeous river and a broadwater that will take you all the way to Brisbane, getting around the Gold Coast on a boat is one of the nicest way to see things. Choose from a party cruise, intimate gondola or anything in between.

Capri - Italy, Europe

Capri is an Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, in the Campania region of Southern Italy. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. Features of the island are the Marina Piccola (the little harbour), the Belvedere of Tragara, which is a high panoramic promenade lined with villas, the limestone crags called sea stacks that project above the sea (the Faraglioni), Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas. Capri is part of the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The town of Capri is the main centre of population on the island. It has two harbours, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate comune of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west.
The etymology of the name Capri is unclear; it might either be traced back to the Ancient Greeks (Ancient Greek kapros meaning "wild boar"), the first recorded colonists to populate the island. But it could also derive from Latin capreae (goats). Fossils of wild boars have been discovered, lending credence to the "kapros" etymology, but on the other hand the Romans called Capri "goat island". Finally, there is also the possibility the name derives from an Etruscan word for "rocky", though any historical Etruscan rule of the island is disputed. In January 1806, French troops occupied the island. The British ousted the French troops that May; Capri was turned into a powerful naval base (a "Second Gibraltar"), but the building program caused heavy damage to the archaeological sites. The French reconquered Capri in 1808, and remained there until the end of the Napoleonic era (1815), when Capri was returned to the Bourbon ruling house of Naples. In the 19th century, the natural scientist Ignazio Cerio catalogued the flora and fauna of the island. This work was continued by his son, the author and engineer Edwin Cerio, who wrote several books on life in Capri in the 20th century.
Norman Douglas, Friedrich Alfred Krupp, Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen, Christian Wilhelm Allers, Emil von Behring, Curzio Malaparte, Axel Munthe, and Maxim Gorky are all reported to have owned a villa there, or to have stayed there for more than three months. Swedish Queen Victoria often stayed there. Rose O'Neill, the American illustrator and creator of the Kewpie, owned the Villa Narcissus, formerly owned by the famous Beaux Art painter Charles Caryl Coleman. Gracie Fields also had a villa on the island, though her 1934 song "The Isle of Capri" was written by two Englishmen. Mariah Carey owns a villa on the island. In 1908, Vladimir Ilic Ulianov, also known as Lenin, was hosted by Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, also known as Maxim Gorky, a Russian, Soviet author, at his house near the Giardini Augusto. In 1970 a monument by Giacomo Manzù was erected during the centennial celebration in his honour.
Capri is a tourist destination for both Italians and foreigners. In the 1950s, Capri became a popular destination. In summer, the island is heavily visited by tourists, especially by day trippers from Naples and Sorrento. Capri is served by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi as well as by boat services from the ports of the Bay of Naples and the Sorrentine Peninsula. Naples is served by two ports, Mergellina and Molo Beverello. Molo Beverello has a higher frequency of departures and a larger selection of boats than Mergellina. From Naples, the ferry takes 80 minutes, and the hydrofoil 40 minutes. From Sorrento, the ferry takes about 40 minutes while the hydrofoil takes about 20 minutes. Boats call at Marina Grande, from where a funicular goes up to Capri town. From Anacapri town, a chair lift takes passengers to the top of the island.

Venice beach - Italy, Europe

Venice Italy beaches and the islands that surround the Venetian mainland are just some of the attractions of the Veneto region. There are a variety of beaches near Venice Italy. Some of them are better suited for swimming and sun bathing than others, and some are designated as private, while others are accessible to the public. Lido Venice Beach is perhaps the most popular and certainly the most heavily trafficked by tourists, especially during the summer months. The island, oftentimes just referred to as the Lido, is a seven-mile sandbar that lies between the mainland of Venice and the Adriatic Sea.
Lido Venice Beach is a general term for all of the coastal beach area available along the sandbar. The Lido is separated into three different settlements. The Lido is the northern part of the island, and where the Venice Film Festival is held every year. Malamocco is the oldest settlement on the island and is situated in the center. The southern tip is called Alberoni. The Venice Italy beaches in the central part of the island are primarily reserved as private beaches for guests of longstanding hotels like Excelsior and the Des Bains. There are a couple of exceptions with a few public beaches scattered in between, but if you are not staying at one of the hotels on Lido, it would be a lot easier to simply head to either the southern end or northeastern most end of the island where you can find two large public beaches. Coco Beach is a popular public beach that can get overrun with tourists in the summer. Blue Moon Beach is also popular amongst tourists visiting or staying on Lido Venice Beach.
The truth about Venice Italy beaches themselves is that they are not nearly as beautiful as some of the beaches near Venice Italy instead of right in the city. There are many more fine sand beaches north east of Venice. Lido Venice Beach, while fun, is more gravel-like sand and the views of the Adriatic with its incoming barges are not necessarily the most awe-inspiring site. As you travel up the Italian coast, you will encounter a wide variety of options for beaches. Many people who travel to Venice opt to stay in these outlying areas, traveling into Venice to enjoy sightseeing during the days. Beaches near Venice Italy like Lido di Jesolo can be reached from Venice by boat in about 30 minutes. The beaches, generally, are much more aesthetically pleasing in this area than the ones that are located within the Venetian Lagoon. Lido di Jesolo is a beach that was built for the purpose of accommodating the thousands of tourists who stay in the vicinity of Venice. It is a beautiful, fine sand beach with rows of beach chairs and umbrellas as well as the usual concession stands, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues.
Most people who travel to Venice do not necessarily have going to the beach on the mind. But it is great to know that while you are in one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Europe, you will also have the ability to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. Lido Venice Beach is a fine option if you are staying in Venice and simply want to spend a day by the water. The beaches in the outlying areas of the city are perfect for those who plan to spend more time on the beach, as they are better equipped with chairs, umbrellas, and public facilities.

Amalfi Coast - Italy, Europe

The Amalfi Coast (Italian: Costiera Amalfitana) is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula in the Province of Salerno in Southern Italy. The Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination for the region and Italy as a whole, attracting thousands of tourists annually. During the 10th-11th centuries, the Duchy of Amalfi existed on the territory of the Amalfi Coast, centered in the town of Amalfi, until it was sacked by the Republic of Pisa in 1137. In 1997, the Amalfi Coast was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape.
Like the rest of the region, the Amalfi Coast lies in a Mediterranean climate, featuring warm summers and mild winters. It is located on the relatively steep southern shore of the Sorrentine Peninsula, leaving little room for rural and agricultural territories. The only land route to the Amalfi Coast is the 40 kilometres (25 mi) long Strada Statale 163 which runs along the coastline from the town of Maiori in the east to Positano in the west. Thirteen municipalities are located on the Amalfi Coast, many of them centered around tourism.
The Amalfi Coast is known for its production of limoncello liqueur as the area is a known cultivator of lemons, known as sfusato amalfitano in Italian, which are grown in terraced gardens along the entire coast between February and October. Amalfi is also a known maker of a hand-made thick paper which is called bambagina.

Pakleni Island - Croatia, Europe

Hvar is not just a gorgeous island and charming town, it's also the centre of the Hvar Riviera which comprises a cluster of offshore islets that are among the best the Adriatic has to offer. Taking its name from 'Paklina', a resin once used to coat ships, the Pakleni Islands offer small, secluded beaches, deserted coves and sun-drenched hills. The closest island is Jerolim, directly opposite Hvar town. and named after a now-disappeared church. Jerolim is a favourite among naturists who generally stroll away from the main jetty and stretch out on one of the shady coves. The islet is rocky but there are pine trees and maquis for shade. it's conveniently equipped with showers and a shop. Nearby is the other island of Marinkovac which contains Stipanska, another naturist beach also equipped with showers and a shop. Another idyllic cove on Marinkovac is Zdrilca which has several pebble beaches. The largest Pakleni island is Sveti Klement (sometimes called Veliki Otok or Big Island) most famous for beautiful Palmizana hamlet. Here, azure waves lick a sandy cove surrounded by pine forests, heather fields and breezes scented by aromatic herbs. Palmizana has been a favourite getaway for Hvar islanders since the turn of the 20th century when a Professor Eugen Meneghello built a summer house and inn there. Now it houses a small museum and a gallery. Nearby Vlaka is a small fishing village reachable in an easy hour walk from Palmizana. Scuba divers love Palmizana for the vibrant underwater life. The absolute best way to get to the Pakleni Islands is to have your own boat and dock it at the ACI Marina at Palmizana, or the cove of Zdrilca. If not, no problem. You can still get there by daily passenger ferry from Hvar town which drops you off in Jerolim, Stipanska or Palmizana. There are daily ferries but Naturally they are much more frequent in summer.

Lopar beach - Croatia, Europe

Lopar beach is near Lopar, a picturesque tourist place, the furthermost village on the island, situated in a fertile valley approximately 14 km away from the old town of Rab.
Lopar’s 2km long sandy Paradise Beach (Rajska plaza) is one of the most famous beaches on the Adriatic. The finest of sand, shallow, crystal clear and warm sea water (up to 28C in the Summer months), the greenest pine forest which offers protection and shade are surely just some of the reasons why numerous guests are attracted. Due to the shallow sea level, the beach is perfect for inferior swimmers, children and elderly people.
